The Surfing Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, presenting, and promoting surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations, and to achieving our goal of surfing being more accurately understood, represented, and enjoyed.
The Foundation has over 150 surfboards on display that serve to illustrate the evolution of surfboard design. This collection contains Simmons, Quiggs, Kivlins, Velzys, Brewers, etc., and includes boards ridden by the likes of Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton, Lisa Andersen, Mick Fanning, Andy Irons, Tom Curren, Gerry Lopez, Duke Kahanamoku, and many other notable legends of the sport. We have a “Big Gun” display, and a Tandem Board exhibit. There’s a shaping shack filled with Dale Velzy’s. Our photo archives include the collections of Tom Blake, Ron Stoner, Don James, Pete Peterson, the Hoffman family, Tom Zahn, and the Whitey Harrison family. Each year we produce numerous special events such as guest lecture series, slide shows, art and historical exhibits, surf films screenings, and concerts, and play host to various award ceremonies such as “Follow the Light”, and the “Big Wave World Tour”. We have a team of volunteer docents that produce educational outreach programs, and Oral History, Photographic, Print Material, and Surf Craft Committees comprised of legends, professionals, and experts in these fields.
